Argentine Currency and Money
Study Abroad in Buenos Aires at UCEMA
The Argentine currency is the Peso ($). One Peso consists of 100 Centavos (cents).
The Peso is signified by the same symbol ($) as the U.S. dollar.
There are $ 100, $ 50, $ 20, $ 10, $ 5 and $ 2 notes; and 1, 0.50, 0.25, 0.10 and 0.05 cent coins.
The U.S. dollar is the most common foreign currency. Banks and currency
exchange offices (casas de cambio) exchange nearly every foreign money.
Most shops, and even supermarkets, accept USD and Euros at reasonable
exchange rates.
Major credit cards are commonly accepted.
ATM machines can be found everywhere in Buenos Aires, allowing
travelers with a variety of credit or debit cards to withdraw funds
automatically in local currency. Although usually accepted at most
hotels, traveler checks are often refused by business establishments
and can be difficult or expensive to change at banks. So, be sure to
bring an ATM card.
